At the Dental Smile Center, removing a tooth is the absolute last resort when it comes to dental treatments we recommend. However, while we’d much rather do everything possible to save your natural teeth, there are some instances where it is simply too damaged to be salvaged and needs to be removed. If this is the case, we’ll explain each step of treatment, make sure you’re feeling comfortable and prepared, and walk you through essential aftercare tips to ensure a speedy recovery.
In most cases, a tooth extraction is needed because long-standing decay was not properly addressed. This can cause the pulp to become infected and effectively die, requiring a removal to prevent the infection from spreading. Teeth may also need to be removed due to physical trauma that damaged the tooth beyond repair or in order to make room for orthodontic treatment or tooth replacement procedures like dental implants.
